CRT and HDMI display settings
Degauss is designed for native 352×240 output on a 15 kHz analog display and lays out larger HDMI framebuffers from their own size.
Native framebuffer layouts
At 352×240, Degauss uses 1:1 pixel mapping for a 15 kHz analog output. Larger framebuffers are laid out from their own dimensions, so HDMI works too.
The same six views are available on either display: List, Details, Tiled, Carousel, Multi List and Gallery. A global default can be set in Options → Appearance → View, and each category, system or folder can keep its own view.
Display settings
Open Y Menu → Options → Display.
| Setting | Does |
|---|---|
| Edge Margin, Sides | Keeps the chosen amount of each side clear of the bezel. |
| Edge Margin, Top and Bottom | Keeps the chosen amount clear vertically. |
| Screen Position, Sideways | Nudges the picture when the screen sits off centre. |
| Screen Position, Up and Down | Nudges the picture vertically. |
Changes are written to settings.toml when leaving an Options page. If saving fails, the page stays open and reports the problem. Delete settings.toml to return to the documented defaults.
Artwork shape
Options → Appearance → Artwork Scale Factor controls how game artwork is fitted. Framebuffer keeps the original square-pixel fit and is the default. 4:3 and 16:9 correct game artwork for those physical display shapes in Details, Tiled, Carousel and Gallery.
Category logos, system logos and the screensaver are unchanged by this setting. Artwork can also be turned off completely with Options → Appearance → Artwork.
Text and browsing controls
Options → Appearance → Text offers Smooth, Pixel, Smooth 2 and Pixel 2. The Bottom Bar While Browsing setting can hide the time and button hints while browsing; menus and operation controls remain visible.
For fast scrolling, Skip Artwork Faster Than lets pictures wait until the list stops. It defaults to 6x.
